Apex exhibition.

Once a year, Apex organizes one exhibition. Every member of that association will show the best of their works at the Media Library of Vandoeuvre, near Nancy [France].

Oh yes, the ad enclosed is written all in french, but here is the translation –

Exhibition - january 16 - february 3/2007. Preview - january 27 at 11:30 am, demo of the members and some calligraphers the same day in the afternoon. I'll certainly be there !...

A short biography.

I was born in the North-East of France 39 years ago...

One day, in 1988, calligraphy suddenly came to me... simply after breaking the nib of my coloured fountain pen ! But then I couldn't guess that it would become my job someday...

It really was love at first sight when, in 1990, I discovered one small booklet [which I didn't keep, alas !] written in such a delighful writing in a church, somewhere in England... Then I learnt calligraphy as a self-taught, until 1996 where I met Laurent Pflughaupt but especially Julien Chazal, two renown french calligraphers who taught me most of that art. Needless to say how decisive & significant that time was to me.

In parallel, I've been studying graphic design for some years. So what was supposed to be a spare-time activity at the beginning naturally and gradually turned to a job just because of my love for Classic Rock music, the Shakespeare's language & poetry.

Now being a calligrapher and a graphic designer, since 2002, I teach calligraphy in some mostly cultural places, in the Nancy [France] area, my adopted town where I live for over 10 years now. I also work for one association called Apex which has been created during the same year. I am a member of that association as well.

Moreover, I organize and take part in exhibitions. The most interesting one I took part in was "la Biennale Internationale de l'Image" [an important exhibition about photography] in 2006.

And of course, I always need to learn – I regularly attend training courses to increase and improve my knowledge. I love experimenting contemporary writings and use new tools and techniques. I am also a fan of typefaces, I have designed some personal fonts and wish I could learn more about typography.

My work is mostly based on all I admire in general, especially Rock Music but also manuscripts, paintings and the British poetry from the 18th & 19th centuries. My other interests are complementary – book-binding, cinema, photography [as a hobby] and much more besides...

Well, sure I am a painter, but I always need to mix letters, words or verses on my paintings !...
